Riding your motorcycle at night poses extra safety threats. There is reduced visibility, of course, but there can also be increased threats on the road. Use the following safety tips next time you hit the road at night.

See and Be Seen

First and foremost, it’s crucial that you do what you can to make yourself as visible as possible.

Make Your Gear More Visible

Black motorcycle gear on a black bike on a gray road is practically invisible in the darkness. Instead, add reflective tape to your standard gear or purchase light-colored gear with reflective qualities that will help you stand out visually.

Make Your Motorcycle More Visible

You can also add reflective tape to your motorcycle or you can add more LED lights to it. If your front headlamp doesn’t seem bright enough, swap it out so that you can see better, too.

Remain Vigilant

There are a few things you need to be watchful for at night: drunk or tired drivers and nocturnal animals in the road. Each of these can cause a real problem for you, so watch for drivers who are swerving or speeding or seem distracted in some way and give them a very wide berth.

As for the animals, signage should alert you to whether there are deer or other animals in the area; it’s up to you to keep an eye out for them.
